UX design company Teehan + Lax has rolled out yet another jaw-dropping web app that lets you create spectacular hyperlapse videos out of Google Maps data.

Hyper-lapse photography is the technique used in creating such stunning videos, which requires a great deal of time and precision to stitch time-lapse photos and sweeping camera movements together -- something that's extremely hard to perfect.

But the guys at Teehan + Lax had managed to make the job simple. Using only Google Street View data as source material, aided with the right tool available, they were able to come up with a very usable, fantastic Google Street View Haperlapse creator.

Google Street View Haperlapse Lets You Create Amazing Journeys (link)

Google Street View Haperlapse is very straightforward to use. All you have to do is to search for location and move around any two transit points in Google Maps, and wait for a couple of seconds until your hyperlapse video gets played. There are also a number of featured trips that are really cool.

Mozilla's Popcorn Maker Lets You Enhance, Recreate Existing Videos from YouTube, Vimeo

As with the conventional Google Street View, you can also pan around the view during hyperlapse video playback. Controls, however, are minimal; there's no way to adjust animation frame rates, and the hyperlapses are a bit faster especially if you span much longer distances from point A to B.

But yes, this experimental app has a GitHub page and so you're free enhance and experiment with things such as custom frame rates.

Google Street View Haperlapse is built with Hyperlapse.js, Three.js (r57), a modified version of GSVPano.js, and Google Maps API v3. This app also requires WebGL and is best viewed in Google Chrome.

Almost everyone has been through this nerve-racking experience before. You are filling out an online form, and it is a long one. Perhaps it is an online Auto Loan or Mortgage Refinancing form. You are finished so you click on the ‘Submit’ button. Only, what happens is that you get an error message, and when you click the 'Back' button, the form is blank. So, what do you do, start over again?

Now you can install a Google Chrome add-on called Lazarus. Simply put, Lazarus saves everything you typed into that form, so if anything should happen, all the data is saved and can be recovered from the Lazarus menu.

Google has finally announced its official Play Gift Cards, joining Amazon and Apple in the gift card game.

The Google Play Gift Cards was first spotted about a month ago in Android Central showing $10 and $25 Google Gift Cards. With the official announcement of its gift cards last August 22, 2012, Google now reveals everything through its Google Play G+ page.

Google has partnered with no less than RadioShack, Walmart, GameStop, and Target. RadioShack, GameStop, and Target are already selling the $10, $25, and $50 denominations in their physical stores, while Walmart will soon be selling them via their official website.

Good news for apps lovers, the gift cards can be used to buy app, games, and in-apps goods as well as books, movies, and music. The gift cards however, cannot be used to purchase accessories, hardware, magazine subscriptions, and Android app subscriptions. Likewise, the gift cards are presently available only to U.S. customers.

Tough luck for those living outside the United States, but, at least good news to American territories like Guam or for those living in Alaska. Google has not yet made any announcements on expansion programs.

Here’s the thing, you’re doing research on the net and you need to take notes. What you’re doing is you’re either switching screens continuously from the website to your notes or you just minimize Microsoft Office Word or Notepad to take notes, which can be very tedious and annoying.

Now, there’s a simpler way to facilitate research work and learning. Google Chrome introduces Split Screen, a Chrome extension for convenient note taking.

Split Your Chrome Browser into Multiple Resizable Windows With Split Screen (link)

Split Screen is a free add-on for Google Chrome. It simply splits the screens on your PC browser into multiple re-sizable windows. Its default feature is its two windows, the left window opening up as a notepad for taking notes.

Another feature of Split Screen is that it can be set so that two websites open side by side. This is useful if you need to do multiple sources research or site comparisons. The user can even split the screen horizontally, another great option feature. If the user decides to split two notepads with one website, it can be done.

Split Screen is easily customized. All you need to do is select from the “Options” or just type the appropriate command into the address bar of a window.

Installation of the Google Chrome extension is fast and easy. It just gives another good reason to stick with, and use, Google Chrome.

I really find it annoying for social reader apps like Yahoo! to post something on my behalf on my Facebook Wall without me knowing. Every time I read an article on Yahoo!, an update is automatically posted on my Feeds, telling my friends what I just read.

The update made by these social readers usually contains items such as "Freddie just read an article" plus the article link. And this is no cool as you're exactly telling the world your reading habits.

So, how can you prevent social reader apps like Yahoo! from posting on your behalf? Mike Klawrence has this neat solution: Unsocialize, a link unsocializer for Firefox & Chrome.

Stop, Prevent Yahoo! and Other Websites From Automatic Posting On Your Timeline

Unsocialize is a Chrome and Firefox extension that allows you to open articles in a new tab without getting redirected to third-party apps and having to grant them access to your Facebook information. The extension provides a right-click menu item "Unsocialize", which essentially bypasses the install request and any other tracking metrics.

Normally, when you click social reader links especially that of Yahoo!, Facebook takes you to the install app request page, requiring you to give permission to third-party apps. The screenshot below shows an example of what the page looks like.

But with Unsocialize, you can bypass this authorization process, thus preventing social reader apps from posting on your behalf. All you have to do is to right-click on any social reader links, then hit "Unsocialize" (see screenshot below).

Unsocialize is definitely useful especially if you don't want your reading habits to be traced.

Here's another good reason why Gmail is still the best email service as yet:

You can now get a consolidated view of all email attachments sent to your Gmail account.

Being able to view and manage all email attachments in single manageable place basically means convenience. You don't want to waste your time searching through your inbox for email attachments, right?

Access, Manage All Files Stored Across Multiple Cloud Accounts All At Once

Well, the consolidation of email attachments is not at all a built-in feature of Gmail. Rather it is made possible by another web services called Attachments.me and DropBox. And Griffith, one of my readers here, shares you the gist on how get it up and running.

Very few simple steps and you should be able to see all Gmail attachments in one manageable place.

Access, Manage All Email Attachments In One Manageable Place (Gmail)

Note: Before you do the setup, make sure you're logged in to both DropBox and Gmail accounts. And to make the setup short, use Google Chrome browser.

Getting started with Attachments.me

Attachments.me is quite snap to use. First you need to download/install Attachments.me Chrome extensions from its website (link). Once installation is complete, you should be taken back to your Gmail's account. This time, you may need to authorize the app to connect to your Gmail account.

Cloud Save: The Quickest Way To Download, Backup Files Straight To The Cloud

Once Attachments.me and Gmail are connected, you'll now get introduced on how to make it work. An on-screen instruction should be displayed straight on your inbox, hinting you to do some basic actions such as connecting Attachments.me and DropBox (or Box) account, saving your first email attachment to your cloud storage account (in this case, DropBox), and specifying DropBox directory where email attachment gets saved.

The on-screen instruction will also introduce you to "filters", which allows you automatically send, save all email attachments to your DropBox/Box account when certain criterion meets. This is really handy when you want to put all work-related files sent as email attachments in one manageable size.

Automatically Backup WordPress Blog Database To DropBox

Now, as soon as DropBox authorization/setup is complete, you should  be able to view and manage all your email attachments from your DropBox account. Or you can access, manage all email attachments straight from your Attachments.me account (we recommend this).

While working with other collaborators in our team on a certain web project, I recently learned that uploaded document files that are converted to Google documents format cannot be larger than 2MB. Google Docs seem to protest for any uploaded files/documents of more than 2MB in size, which I believe a big turn off for anyone who wants to get the job done fast.

Here's a sample failed upload prompt from Google Docs. It says "Sorry, this file is too big. We can only convert files up to 2 MB in size.":

Well, obviously there is this file size upload restrictions on Google Docs, and unfortunately there's not such a good web app similar to Google Docs that offers seamless, real-time collaboration at no cost.

Access, Manage All Files Stored Across Multiple Cloud Storage Accounts In One Place

So let's get our head back to Google.

Getting Rid Of Google Docs' 2MB Upload File Size Limits

If you ever found yourself in a complete need to upload large documents, spreadsheets to Google Docs but could not due to file size restrictions, you might find this simple workaround useful. (For more of our Google-related goodies, you can find them HERE).

Alright, here's the trick:

Rather than uploading your large files, spreadsheets and documents to Google Docs, send them all to your own Gmail account. As soon as you receive all the documents, save them to your Google Docs account. Yes, it's really that quick.

Cloud Save - The Quickest Way To Download, Backup Files Straight To The Cloud

Here are the basic steps:

Step 1 Send the document to your own Gmail account.

Step 2 Once received, click on "View". Gmail should launch Google Doc viewer in a separate tab/window.

Step 3 Now, hit that tiny "Save in Google Docs" button at the upper right corner of the viewer. Once done, you should see your newly-added file to your Google Docs collection.

It's quite surprising to note that it takes only Gmail to remove that file size upload restriction in Google Docs. So next time, if you encounter that same Google Docs prompt again, just follow that dead simple Google hacks. Enjoy!

We've waiting for what feels like forever, but the Android contingent can finally carry on with life knowing that at least some things are (semi) fair. Yes, Instagram is now available for Android.

Keeping with tradition, the app itself is free to download, and the outfit seems overjoyed with finishing up what it's (accurately) calling "one of the most anticipated releases on the Android platform to date." It's also clear that the team has done more than a simple port, and while the exact same filters will be found here as on the iOS version, the team has worked to make the app responsive and fluid on Android's vast landscape. We are told, however, that there are a few features that will not be included in the first version of the Android app (Tilt Shift / Blur, Share from Feed, Live Preview and Share to Flickr), but upcoming versions are intended to bridge any differences.

For now, any phone running Android 2.2 or above (with support for OpenGL ES 2) is compatible, but Android tablets are not. There's a maximum resolution support of 2,048 x 2,048, and the company assures us that the "exact same filters and algorithms are implemented on both [iOS and Android builds], so there is no difference in the output other than the raw image quality that differs between phones." Eager to get going?

Finally, Instagram for Android Now Available for Download

It's really a pain in the neck when you found some interesting Android apps in the Market but ended up frustrated because they are not available in your country. And yes its not cool, especially if the app you're about to download is FREE.

Android Market is not directly to blame; its the application developers actually who pose those download restrictions, making some apps in the Market not available in your country. But don't worry, there's a fix.

Android App Not Available In Your Country? Here's The Fix

Market Enabler is the Android app you need. It's a fully working workaround that enables you to download Android apps not available in your country. What Market Enabler does is temporarily change the SIM issuer code in your system, making it possible to download Android apps which are not supposedly available in your country.

Watch YouTube Videos Blocked or Not Available In Your Country

Market Enabler tricks the device location in order to access the Market from other countries, since the Android market is country and carrier specific.

Follow this simple guide on how to download and install Android apps not available in your country:

Note: Your Android device needs to be rooted for Market Enabler to work.

Step 1 Download and install Market Enabler from Google Play HERE. Or you can get the APK file HERE.

Step 2 Open Market Enabler and choose a provider to fake. (e.g. T-Mobile [USA]).

Step 3 Minimize/close ‘Market Enabler’, and then launch Android Market app (now Google Play) then search for your app.

Step 4 Once you find the 'restricted' app, just hit ‘Download’ button and then the Android Market will open with the app magically there.

It's that easy!

Previously on this blog we have talked about SMS Scheduler apps both for the iPhone and Android.  SMS Scheduler apps are special kind of software that let you schedule, auto-send SMS text messages at later point in time. You just have to specify the sending date and time, and let your phone automatically send those scheduled messages at preset time. Head over HERE to learn more on how to automatically send SMS text messages at predefined time.

This short tutorial will introduce you to yet another awesome scheduling app, but this time for emails.

Check If Email Address Is Valid -- Verify If Email Address Is Existing

Scheduling your emails to be sent in the future is helpful for some reasons. Or if you know that the recipient always gets online every 8:00 PM, it might also wise to schedule your email to be delivered on that time. You don't want your emails to be buried by all of the other emails, right?

For some, not every single aspect of Facebook is a complete clean-cut. Taking its Image Viewer as an example, you have to do the wear-and-tear on your mouse; click on every single photo that appears either on your feed, wall or to someone else' gallery to get the sufficient detail of the image. And once a larger version gets displayed, you need to click the tiny Close button again to close the viewer.

Kind of annoying, isn't it?

Thankfully, there is such a browser extension that automatically enlarges, zooms in the photo currently being hovered, making Facebook less of a hassle!

FB Photo Zoom: Lets You Zoom Facebook Photos By Mouse-Overing Them [link]

FB Photo Zoom is the Chrome extension that truly saves you time when viewing photo streams on Facebook. With this free Chrome add-on, you'll find it much quicker to interact with Facebook photos: you just have to mouse over those photos. In other words, you just have to position your cursor on top of any photo in your feeds, then wait a second until the full-sized version of the image appears.

For non-Chrome users, you may want to checkout Thumbnail Zoom for Firefox. As with the former, this add-on shows a floating panel with the full size of a thumbnail when hovering over an image or thumbnail. Other than Facebook, Thumbnail Zoom supports Twitter, MySpace, Amazon, Picasa, Flickr, LinkedIn, Hi5, Twitpic, deviantART, PhotoBucket, Tagged, Last.fm, Wikipedia, YouTube, DailyMile, IMDb, Imgur, Photosight.ru and Google Images.

As with other web browsers, Google Chrome records your login information, passwords, sessions and cookies everytime you visit a website. These are bits of information web browsers store and use so that you don't need to re-login and provide the same information all over again when you visit the same website. The feature is useful, but here's the ugly side: anyone who sneak use your laptop/computer can access the same webpages using your login/cookie information. And this is pretty dangerous if the saved web information has something to do with money.

If you don't want this to happen, one best way is to lock and protect your Chrome browser with a password so that no one else can access the internet without your permission. Take control over who access the internet through your browser; learn how to lock and protect your Chrome browser quickly and easily.

This least-known service of Google is turned on by default, which allows you to view and manage your web activity, including web visits and Google searches. With Google's web history you'll be able to know your previous searches, including the set of keywords you used that lead you to a specific website.

Google's Web History is great, BUT here's the ugly side: almost anyone can gain access to your searches and web visits online! If you constantly lend your laptop to a friend or a working colleague, it's likely that you forgot to end your session on Google. Almost all browsers are capable of holding your login information, so it's not impossible for anyone to mess around your account!

Google Search Trick You're Restricted To Use

Clearing web browsing history on your browser is not enough, you've got to make sure that all sessions, data auto-filled on web forms, and browsing information saved on Google are all cleared. Here I'm going to show you how to turn off and disable this Web History service of Google.

Astronomical events are fascinating, and shouldn't be missed. So whenever the Earth experiences a total lunar eclipse or a comet is set to pass by the Earth, we always take the time of going outside, armed with binoculars and telescopes, and flock to observatories together with other sky-seers.

This August 26 is another big day -- Comet Garradd is set to pass by the Earth (thru globular cluster M71), so some parts of the world particularly Australia will be able to see that bright “fuzzball” and the luminous tail coming to a view.

Not in Australia? No telescope? That’s not a problem.

Google wants everyone around the globe to get up-close to any celestial events such as the arrival of Comet Garradd this August 26. Google, together with Slooh, has created an online mission interface so anyone can take a glimpse to any astronomical events in real-time at the comfort of their couch. (I’d love to call the project as web-based telescope).

Watch Live Lunar Eclipse, Comets Online – No Need Telescopes

To watch lunar eclipse and comet online without using Ultra Zoom Binocular Telescopes, just visit the official live streaming YouTube channel of Google on the event day. You should be able to see the Moon covering over the Sun or a gleaming comet passing by the Earth.

You can also watch the event live on Slooh’s mission interface, together with narration from astronomers (August 26 event will be hosted by Astronomy Magazine and NPR luminary, Bob Berman). A much cooler way to witness the event is to use your phone as telescope and watch Total Lunar Eclipse live from your Android. Download the Slooh Space Camera Android app and see images from the eclipse/comets on your Android phone.

Why download those files you found on the web when you can just save them straight to the cloud?

When we found something useful on the internet (e.g. photos, videos, MP3s, PDFs, docs, etc.), we normally take the time to download them, save them to our hard drive, and upload them to our online drive. That’s how typical users perform backup whenever they found something great on the internet. But, do you know that you can skip through this process by simply sending those files you found on the web straight to DropBox, Facebook and other similar sites?

Get Notified When Someone Talks About You On The Web

Back to my previous post, I have described how easy it is to backup, share and sync your files across multiple computers with DropBox. At no cost, you can safely and seamlessly put your files on the cloud, access them anywhere, and recover them in the event that you’ve accidentally deleted them.

This post seeks to complement that innovative technology of DropBox and its rival SugarSync. If you want to save yourself from unnecessary clicks when trying to save, backup file you found on the web, this post is for you.

You might have already used some of the advanced search techniques to get more refined, custom results on Google. By combining your search keys with few more search functions like inurl, filetype, site:url, related:url, language:lang_name, etc., you'll surely get the most relevant pages, contents out of Google.

Here I'm going to share another 'trick' you may want to explore when looking for something "awesome" on the internet. Those who live by the idea that software should be given for free (and not sold) may find this trick useful.

Google Search TrickBy entering 94FBR before software's name right on Google Search box, you'll get a list of webpages that host serials, keys or illegal copies of software specified. Put simply, you can instantly obtain serials or keys for a specific software using the "94FBR" trick. Just type 94FBR + name of software (e.g. 94FBR Xxxx XXX).

Access Live Surveillance Cameras in the World with Google

Clearly this is not anymore a wholesome trick and you're not supposed to do it. Thought of it as a "nice" share to demonstrate just as how easy it is for some unscrupulous individuals to obtain serials and keys of particular software for free using Google.

But what's with 94FBR? What is it?

According to Yahoo, "94FBR was part of a Microsoft Office 2000 product key that was released on the internet that bypassed Microsofts activation system. Because it is a relatively uncommon term, when you add it to your search queries, it will generally return results of pages listing illegal serial numbers". That's how '94FBR trick' works and why it works!

Again, you may want to try it to see it for yourself but please support the developers -- get legal copy of software straight from vendor's site or other trusted site.

Google Search Trick You're Restricted To Use

One notable feature of Opera that is missing in Chrome and Firefox is that you can let the browser to read out loud texts found in webpages for you. The process is simple: just highlight the texts you want Opera to speak for you, right-click, then hit "Speak". You should immediately hear Opera talking about the webpage you're browsing -- be it about news articles, emails, tweets or Facebook updates. Safari Browser also comes with this builtin text-to-speech (TTS) function, making it easier to catch up news and updates.
