So you copied something, a photo or a tiny line of codes perhaps, and out of carelessness and itchy happy fingers, you accidentally copied another. And then you realized you need to re-access those previously copied items. And so you begin to wonder: is there a clipboard history, or a temporary folder where all your copied items are saved?

If you’re on Windows and you don’t have any clipboard manager installed, there is not such a way to recover those previous clippings. The notorious Windows’ clipboard only holds one item at a time. New items will permanently delete the previous one.

Pause For Later: Lets You Resume Your Interrupted Video Streaming On YouTube

Here’s the situation. You have a lot of work to do. Perhaps you have a deadline at work to submit a report. Perhaps you’re catching up with your school term paper deadline. Perhaps you’re working as a home based web developer and your client has set a deadline.

But, the temptations are numerous. You end up watching the latest Linkin Park videos on YouTube, or you keep commenting and uploading on Facebook, or you can’t seem to stop the latest downloads of “Game of Thrones.”

Split Screen: Splits Your Web Browser into Multiple Resizable Windows

This doesn’t sound good for productivity. It can get you fired, or you end up with a failing grade, or worse, you lose your client.

It really boils down to personal self-discipline. However, there’s an app that can help you with your self-discipline issues and to help you get the real work done.

Save Yourself from Time Sinks & Be Productive Online With LeechBlock (link)

Introducing an extension called Leechblock. It works perfectly well with Firefox. This may sound almost impossible, but, the extension app does work.

All you need to do is download Leechblock, install it, then restart your browser. Now comes your honesty and discipline factor. Select the site or sites that make you unproductive and block them on the browser’s tool menu.

But, it doesn’t stop there. You can set the time periods that these sites should be blocked. That’s right; you’re not depriving yourself completely. It’s just a discipline thing. You can even set the number of minutes or hours you can allow yourself to visit the selected sites per hour or per day.

Block, Restrict Access To Unwanted Websites - No Additional Software Needed

Lastly, you can select the days of the week Leechblock should block these sites. You can also set an optional “custom name” for the selected sites such as “The Force Balances Time between Work and Play” or other funny or not so funny file names. Putting up custom file names allows you to categorize what sites you’re blocking.

You can add sites anytime to the block lists on Leechblock. Can you undo the blocked sites? Here’s where the discipline factor comes in. Of course, you can unblock anything, but, Leechblock will make it difficult for you.

So, stop wasting your time and get back to work. But, before you do, download Leechblock first.

For Chrome, you may want to check out Nanny, yet another productivity add-on similar to LeechBlock that allows you to be more productive and less distracted by blocking sites.

How To: Temporarily Block, Restrict Access to Unwanted Websites and Increase Productivity

Here’s the thing, you’re doing research on the net and you need to take notes. What you’re doing is you’re either switching screens continuously from the website to your notes or you just minimize Microsoft Office Word or Notepad to take notes, which can be very tedious and annoying.

Now, there’s a simpler way to facilitate research work and learning. Google Chrome introduces Split Screen, a Chrome extension for convenient note taking.

Split Your Chrome Browser into Multiple Resizable Windows With Split Screen (link)

Split Screen is a free add-on for Google Chrome. It simply splits the screens on your PC browser into multiple re-sizable windows. Its default feature is its two windows, the left window opening up as a notepad for taking notes.

Another feature of Split Screen is that it can be set so that two websites open side by side. This is useful if you need to do multiple sources research or site comparisons. The user can even split the screen horizontally, another great option feature. If the user decides to split two notepads with one website, it can be done.

How To: Password Protect, Lock Google Chrome Browser

Split Screen is easily customized. All you need to do is select from the “Options” or just type the appropriate command into the address bar of a window.

Installation of the Google Chrome extension is fast and easy. It just gives another good reason to stick with, and use, Google Chrome.

Split Screen: Splits Your Web Browser into Multiple Resizable Windows

Many who alternate between using Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox know that the latter always comes with many toolbars. Unfortunately, as more toolbars and extensions are used, Firefox can become cluttered, so your viewing area for webpages become less and less in time.

A Firefox extension called Buttonizer solves this problem.

Remove, Uninstall Browser Extensions, Toolbars All At Once – For Chrome, IE and Firefox

If you use small screen PC, you can get more space in your browser with Buttonizer without having to hide the toolbars from view and without sacrificing the viewing area. This Firefox add-on converts a complete tool bar into a simple button on the address bar.

How it works?

All you need to do is download and install Buttonizer from the Mozilla add-on site (link). Once installed, you will need to restart Firefox. After this, you will see Buttonizer as a button on the right side of your Address bar. All you need to do is to right-click on it and then select which toolbars can be converted to a button.

Once a toolbar is selected, it becomes hidden. When you mouse over the Buttonizer, you can access the hidden toolbar again.

Lazarus Is Your Time-Saving Chrome Add-On That Saves Anything You Type On A Web Form

However, you can only set one toolbar at a time to a button. When you right click the Buttonizer button and select another toolbar as a button, the previous toolbar will revert to normal. The advantage of this app is that you no longer need to click so many buttons just to retrieve a hidden toolbar on the browser. The app works sort of like a button shortcut.

According to its developer, Byungwook Kang from South Korea, Buttonizer works great if you are using a small screen such as from a laptop or netbook. The next step for Kang and Buttonizer is adding multiple button support.

This short tutorial will introduce you to yet another awesome scheduling app, but this time for emails.

Check If Email Address Is Valid -- Verify If Email Address Is Existing

Scheduling your emails to be sent in the future is helpful for some reasons. One good example is that you might want to deliver your email at the exact time when the recipient gets to their desk every morning. Or if you know that the recipient always gets online every 8:00 PM, it might also wise to schedule your email to be delivered on that time. You don't want your emails to be buried by all of the other emails, right?

Why download those files you found on the web when you can just save them straight to the cloud?

When we found something useful on the internet (e.g. photos, videos, MP3s, PDFs, docs, etc.), we normally take the time to download them, save them to our hard drive, and upload them to our online drive. That’s how typical users perform backup whenever they found something great on the internet. But, do you know that you can skip through this process by simply sending those files you found on the web straight to DropBox, Facebook and other similar sites?

Get Notified When Someone Talks About You On The Web

Back to my previous post, I have described how easy it is to backup, share and sync your files across multiple computers with DropBox. At no cost, you can safely and seamlessly put your files on the cloud, access them anywhere, and recover them in the event that you’ve accidentally deleted them.

This post seeks to complement that innovative technology of DropBox and its rival SugarSync. If you want to save yourself from unnecessary clicks when trying to save, backup file you found on the web, this post is for you.

Save Files Directly To The Cloud With Cloud Save

Cloud Save is a Google Chrome extension that lets you to automatically save files to web services such as DropBox, Google Docs, Box.net, SugarSync, Facebook, Picasa, Flickr, Twitpic and more. So when you stumble upon a website and wish to grab any of the file as backup, you can just right-click the link, then decide where you’d like to send the file. Cloud Save will then automatically save the file to the chosen web service.

Scan File URL Before Download -- Check Download Link If Safe

Cloud Save truly saves your time as you don’t need to download file you found on the internet as backup. With Cloud Save, you can just right-click the file/link and allow Cloud Save to connect through these web services to initiate transfer/backup process. Download Cloud Save for Chrome here.

If you've been a long time user of WhatsApp for Android or iPhone, you probably have noticed that nice floating video player that pops up right within the app every time you click on a shared video from YouTube, Facebook, Instagram and Streamable. That feature is called Picture-in-Picture (PiP) launched back in December last year.

Now in what seems to be an attempt to inflate the amount of time you spend on WhatsApp, the same PiP feature is now available in WhatsApp Web. Which means you can now chat with your friends and watch shared videos from YouTube or Facebook WITHOUT leaving the app. Sweet.

New Chrome Add-on Lets You Watch YouTube Videos While You Search, Browse — Similar to YouTube Mobile App

The update comes from WhatsApp Web version 0.3.2041, which is expected to be followed by a few more enhancements later this year like dark mode, face recognition and more.

How to open shared YouTube/Facebook videos within WhatsApp Web

  1. Ensure you have the most recent version of WhatsApp Web. WhatsApp normally auto-downloads whatever updates available. If you think you're not getting the update, you may need to hard-refresh your browser or clear cache/cookies.
  2. Now, on your computer head to https://web.whatsapp.com/ and follow on-screen instruction.

Support for PiP for WhatsApp Web may not be a big update for some but it's a welcome addition to those heavy WhatsApp Web users.

There is a new iPhone app called Chirp that will soon make tidal waves in the way we communicate through our smartphones.

No, technology is not going to the birds if you are also thinking of Twitter. It just so happens that the app’s name is Chirp because it uses a robotic bird sound to transmit data to other phones. Yes, Chirp can transmit URL’s, pictures, and words from one phone to another.

Little birdy reviews and critics are now lauding this app as not just another extension or entertainment application. It has the potential to take wings and fly away if marketed properly.

New iPhone App 'Yinztagram' Lets You Add Some Pittsburgh To Your Photos

Okay, okay, enough of the intended puns. Chirp was created by a company called Animal Systems (no pun intended, this IS the name of the company), many of its members coming from the Computer Science Department at the University College London. At present, the app is available only for iOS but, a version for Android is in the making.

Here’s how it works:

1 Simply open your Chirp app and ask the recipient/s to open their app as well. The recipient can be one up to 500 persons, even more.

2 The app then gives you a yellow button. Just press it and you will hear a two-second chirping sound that sends your picture, text, or URL to anyone within earshot. A second or two after, whatever you sent pops up on the recipient’s phone screen.

Viddy — The Instagram for Videos — Lets You Create Visually Stunning 15-Second Slices Of Your Life

Chirp isn’t really transmitted by sound. The app basically uploads the content to the cloud, creates a code for the content, then converts the code into sound. The sound is sent and received, with the receiver’s app decoding the sound. Though it needs an internet connection, it can be sent offline. When the receiver connects later, the app is received.

It even works in noisy environments. The app is optimized to receive only the chirping tone generated by the app.

The future of Chirp is very promising because Animal Systems has the ability to incorporate the technology into other products. It has the potential to be so revolutionary that companies like Microsoft, Facebook, Twitter (obviously), Google, and Apple will want to incorporate it with their offerings. Its radical process of sharing content is what makes it stand out from other pairing devices like Blue-tooth, Wi-Fi, and texting, which are all just pairing devices.

Transfer Large Files Between iPhone and Other iDevices Over Existing Wi-Fi Network

Here are a couple of examples of the apps potential. A TV show could tell people watching to open their apps. When the show Chirp’s content, people receive the content because the sound is clear on the TV’s speakers. Or, imagine that you are giving a presentation to a large audience, you can Chirp the visual presentation to them.

It has been tested and works pretty well on videos, podcasts, and radio shows.

Google’s Chromium team has recently introduced a few enhancements to its beloved Chrome web browser. One of the features it added albeit hidden is the experimental “Reading Mode“ for Windows and Mac, which essentially strips off unnecessary web elements and gives you a simplified view of a web page.

Google Chrome’s Reader Mode is disabled by default. So you’ll have to enable it yourself. Here's how:

Activating Reader Mode on Google Chrome

  1. Ensure you’re using the latest Google Chrome’s Canary version
  2. In your Chrome address bar, type chrome://flags/#enable-reader-mode

  3. Enable it and restart your browser

Now, every time you lands in a page and you want a simplified view of it, just go to Settings > Distill Page. It should declutter the page, removing background web clutters such as banners, ads, etc.

While it’s good Chromium team finally brings the long-overdue Reader Mode for desktop without installing a third-party extension, Google Chrome’s default Reader Mode is still in its infancy and begs a facelift. Currently, you can’t change the font size, styles, and colors. Such reading mode features are sure a delight once they’re made available in the next iteration of Google Chrome’s version

How many times do you see links shared in your wall, email or in a forum only to find that it contains potentially unsafe stuff like virus, trojan, or worm? Sure, you've already installed a top-notch antivirus software, but adding one more line of defense is sure worth your effort to protect your PC.

Check if your antivirus software is working - use only Notepad

If you're ever unsure about the credibility of the file, software you're about to download in the internet, one best way is to scan the download link or URL first prior to download. This way you'll be able to protect yourself from malicious files which could jeopardize your system. Take advantage of the following free online scanning tools and websites that can analyze, determine whether the file is containing a virus through its URL or download links only.

Previously on this blog we have talked about Torrific, a free web-based torrent downloader that allows you to download torrent files using only your Chrome, Firefox or any browser of your choice. Torrific generates a direct link of any valid .torrent link and then present that torrent in a single, manageable zip file. Torrific also is a good alternative if you're looking for ways on how to download torrent file using only your iPhone, Android, Symbian or any mobile handsets.

Download Specific Parts, Portions Of YouTube Videos

Torrific is already awesome, but just as no one is saint to give anything free with no flaws, Torrific also poses limitations and may not always work over time. Thankfully, there's such a good website that works almost similar to Torrific; it lets you download torrent files using only your web browser.

BitLet: Download Torrent Files Using Chrome, Opera, or Firefox Browser [link]

BitLet is a web service that gives torrent downloaders a new option to share, download torrent files online. BitLet can be a good alternative to Torrific as it can download torrent files using only your web browser -- no BitTorrent needed.
BitLet is very easy to use; you just have to enter a valid .torrent URL and allow BitLet to connect to the swarm on behalf of the end user. BitLet will then prompt you for download folder where you want to save the file.

Download, Save Files Straight To Cloud Storage Providers With CloudSave

BitLet is also available as browser extension on Google Chrome. Once installed, Chrome automatically
detects all the links to torrent files within the pages you're browsing and it will make those links open BitLet's download popup, allowing you to start downloading in a few clicks.

Remember the Software Data Cable for Android I mentioned before? That was really a clever tiny piece of  app that every Android user should install. Why? Well, you better see my previous post about it here: How To: Transfer Files From PC To Android Phone Via Wi-Fi (And Vice Versa).

If you ever wished you could do almost the same thing on your iPhone or iPad and make your life a LOT easier, well, then, you've got to check out PushBullet.

PushBullet is your Swiss Army Knife for anything wireless

As a long-time Android user who just switched to iOS, I hate it when moving files & information from my computer to iPhone is such a difficult feat. The same frustration you get when you copy contents from your iPhone to your Mac or Windows PC. And that's the problem that PushBullet is trying to solve.

What is PushBullet

In a nutshell, PushBullet makes it really easy to send files, ebooks, links, and virtually any  media files from one device to another. Whether you're pushing files from your Windows computer to your iPhone, iPad or Android, the process is absolutely painless. All you have to do is to right-click the file or link and select the destination device and voila, you can instantly go right to that file/link by tapping on the notification you get on your Android or iDevice. And no, you don't have to be in the same wireless network to make PushBullet works.

Browse, Access Your Photos From Your iPhone, iPad To Your Computer Over Wi-Fi

And if you have an Android device, you can even automatically “push” all your calls and SMS alerts to your computer so you  won't miss important calls and text messages even if your phone is on silent mode or in another room. Unfortunately for iOS, PushBullet doesn't have this feature yet. But given the more open iOS8.0+ architecture, I believe this feature is currently in the works (check out the paid app Notifyr for iOS, it works almost the same).

Why is it useful?

PushBullet's homepage already has a detailed information on how it works and how it becomes so handy, but allow me to point it out here.

With PushBullet, you can easily:
  • Send files from your mobile device to your computer with one click (or the other way around)
  • Receive calls, SMS and other phone notifications straight on your computer

And if you're on Android, there are whole lot more you can do with PushBullet like being able to reply text messages straight from your computer.

Final Verdict:

PushBullet is a simple yet powerful push notification service designed to make all your internet-connected devices “work” together. It's a godsend  web service that you will surely appreciate especially if you're dealing with multiple devices. PushBullet is currently available for iOS, Android and as a browser extension for Chrome, Firefox and Opera. There's also an unofficial paid app PushPal for Mac users.

Must-Have: PushBullet Makes Your iOS, Android and Computer "Work" Together

No matter how sophisticated online project management tools have become, chances are you still have this inseparable dependence on this classic, antiquated messaging platform ever created: emails.

Juggling through tens to hundreds of emails a day is the new normal nowadays, all the more if you work online. As a web developer myself, I constantly get batted with emails coming from sources like Basecamp, Asana, Project Turf and Trello. Add to that are the random newsletters, pesky marketing, and social media alerts.

And I tell you, sifting through unread emails is ain't fun.

Thankfully, Nick Timms has come up with a clever idea. And it's no clichéd idea, as the way you engage in emails is now about to change.

His recently launched app Drag, currently available as a Chrome extension, seeks to allay your email fatigue (or at least makes emails a lot less boring).

Gmail's Addon Streak Lets You Monitor, Track If Emails Are Read, Viewed By Recipients

What is Drag?

Drag is a browser add-on that transforms your Gmail messages into a manageable, much-organized list just like Trello. If you're familiar with the simplicity and intuitiveness of Trello, you'll surely love Drag.

Once you install Drag, you no longer get to see this boring list of email messages:

Instead, your inbox gets upgraded into this neat, intuitive layout:

And the fun doesn't end there. You can drag items from one column to another. Sweet.

Installation

Getting up & running is no rocket science. All you need to do is to install the Chrome add-on and connect your Gmail account. It's that easy. See Drag in action below:

The Good

Being able to organize your inbox messages into a Trello-like, draggable Boards is a welcome and refreshing take. And I think Nick's team must have hit the sweet spot for doing it first.

The Bad

As with the rest of the apps in the wild, there will always be some limitations. Drag currently supports Google Chrome and you can only use it on a single Gmail account. Multi-Gmail accounts support is in the works and Drag team hopes to roll this out within this month.

How To: Automatically Send Email Messages At Later Time

Rummaging through emails is the first thing I do in the morning. And I admit it, it's the same thing I do before I hit the bed. That chronic habit stems not from wanting to do and meet those tasks head-on, but because I want to know the size of my tasks in a given day, set priorities, flag those that need immediate attention, and see if I can spend more time on Facebook ranting by dropping the others in my procrastination basket. And Drag is sure going to alter that.

Drag Declutters Your Inbox, Turns Gmail Into Manageable, Organised Lists Similar to Trello's Boards

Facebookers who're curious (and hurt) about those who took time removing you as friend on Facebook can now take advantage of a handful of tools that tell you whether someone unfriends you on Facebook.

At first, I thought of it as a scam. Who would ever thought this is possible when Facebook has this restrictive policy especially when it comes to privacy thing? But again I was wrong; it is actually possible to find out who unfriended or removed you as friend on Facebook, and am going to show you how:

Find Out Who Deleted, Unfriended You On Facebook

The first method that we're going to use is Unfriend Finder, a browser extension designed for major web browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera. Unfriend Finder, as what the name goes, tracks your friend's list and notifies you for any irregularities or "unfriends" made by your friends.

For Mozilla Firefox Users:

If you're using Firefox, you need to install Greasemonkey first, it's a Firefox add-on, to make Unfriend Finder work for you. By the time you have Greasemonkey installed, download Unfriend Finder for Firefox. Once Unfriend Finder is installed, close the tab with Facebook, or/and open a new tab and go to Facebook.com. You should be welcomed with the introduction to Unfriend Friend, where it will take you through the necessary steps, and tips you need to get started.

For Google Chrome Users:

For non-Firefox users like Chrome, the process should be fairly simple. Just search for Unfriend Finder in Google Web Store or you can download Unfriend Finder for Chrome here. Once installed, go to Facebook.com and you should get the same welcome screen.

NOTE: Be sure to uninstall all previous extensions of Unfriend Finder to make it work.

"Who Deleted Me?" also is worth a try. This is a free service that notifies you via email whenever a friend removes you as friend on Facebook. The only downside for this is that email notification is delivered weekly, bi-monthly or monthly. And "unfriends" made prior to the installation/integration of "Who Deleted Me?" are not recorded.
